Lily: How long does it usually take to get a patent?
Ian: Well, examination usually takes around 18 months, and the Patent Office needs 90 days to wait for any possible opposition.
Lily: I see. How about the validity of patent right for an invention?
Ian: 15 years. And this is the minimum protection that a country will grant its patentees.
Lily: Is the patent transferable?
Ian: Yes. Of course.
